Seminar Spotlight: Sports Business Excursion Day

This post features student writing.

On Saturday we went on a hike up the mountains to see the beautiful landscape of downtown Los Angeles. As a group we made great memories as we laughed our way across the sandy ground. We ended up walking to Echo Park, but had to stop at a shoe store to check out the latest kicks. We later went to Brite Spot diner and ate more burgers, chicken and waffles, and sandwiches than our bodies could handle. As a group we walked over to the lake and rode “Swans,” which we peddled ourselves to move across the choppy water. However, to make things interesting, we drove into the fountain and started bumping each other’s Swan boats.

We then had an hour or so of free time in which we shopped and relaxed by the water. Then, we headed to the Dodger’s Stadium to see one of the oldest stadiums still standing today. Before being guided around the stadium, we received free Cody Bellinger jerseys to show our support for the Dodgers. Throughout, we saw the trophy room, VIP suites, saw the players practice, and learned so much more about the Dodgers and the stadium as a whole. After that, the game started and we watched the Dodgers try their hardest to beat the Padres, but they ended up losing 3-1. Even though the Dodgers lost, our group enjoyed some great American stadium food. As a class we learned about the money and time it takes to run an elite team in the MLB and how baseball is just as much of a business as any other sport. Overall, the sports management class learned a lot throughout our very exciting, very long, and very fun day.
